What can I search?

Stories (the default), Show HN, Ask HN or comments. Add since and until dates, a minimum number of points, and sort by date or relevance.

Why does a result not mention my words in the title?

The search also matches the text and the link of a post. With sort by date, a recent post that only mentions the words in its text can come before a well-known one; use relevance and min_points to get the posts that matter.

How fresh is it?

New posts show up quickly: in a search by date on Oct 12, 2026, the newest result had been posted that same morning.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Hacker News searches are free. You need an account for an API key, and the $5 welcome credit is there for the paid tools.
