Check whether a Brazilian supplier is barred from public work before you sign

About to hire Coesa? Two different companies called Coesa are on the government lists, and both are barred: the former OAS until Dec 2027, and Coesa Construção e Montagem by one city since Oct 7, 2026.

Give your AI assistant the companies you are about to hire. For each one you get whether a government body has barred or fined it, by whom, until when and for how much, matched by company number so renamed companies and lookalike names don't fool you.

Ask your AI assistant

Before we sign, check these builders in the federal government's lists of barred and fined companies: Coesa (CNPJ 14.310.577/0001-04, and anyone else listed as Coesa), Camargo Corrêa (CNPJ 61.522.512/0001-02), Odebrecht and Queiroz Galvão. For each, tell me if it is barred, by whom and until when, any fines, and whether it is listed under another name.

Search Coesa: two companies on the lists, both barred: Construtora Coesa, the former OAS, until Dec 2027; Coesa Construção e Montagem, barred by one city since Oct 7, until Oct 2028. Also checked, 12 more builders from big corruption cases (examples). By every public buyer: Delta no end date, Camargo Corrêa until Feb 2027, Galvão Engenharia no end date, Skanska Brasil no end date. By one buyer: Constran until Aug 2028, Nova Engevix until Mar 2027, Mendes Júnior until Sep 2028. Fined only: Andrade Gutierrez. No listing under the names searched, by name only: Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão, UTC, Iesa

What you get

  • For each company: barred or not, by which public body, and until when
  • Fines on record, with the amount and who imposed them
  • The name each one is listed under, so a renamed company is still caught
  • Lookalike names that a name search would confuse with your supplier, set apart

A real run

Checked Oct 13, 2026 against the federal lists files dated Oct 10, 2026 (23,653 barred listings and 1,836 Anti-Corruption Law penalties). We picked 13 builders named in Brazil's big corruption cases; examples, not a sample; not affiliated. The 9 with listings were checked by company number; Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão, UTC and Iesa by name only, under the names on their cards. "Barred by every public buyer" means a declaration of unfitness that the list marks for all spheres of government, or one by the federal comptroller.

A search for "Coesa" finds two different companies on the lists, and both are barred.

Construtora Coesa is the former OAS: the lists still carry it as Construtora OAS, declared unfit for any public contract by Marília city (SP) until Dec 2027 and by São Paulo city until Dec 2026, with R$120.8M in fines from Rio de Janeiro city, Minas Gerais state and São Paulo city. Coesa Construção e Montagem, a different company (CNPJ 18.738.697/0001-68), was barred by Juazeiro do Norte (CE) for that city's contracts on Oct 7, 2026, until Oct 2028. The company number tells them apart.

We checked 13 builders named in Brazil's big corruption cases (examples, not a sample). On Oct 13, 2026, 8 were barred from at least some public work. 5 are declared unfit for any public contract: OAS, Camargo Corrêa (until Feb 2027), and Delta (now Salgueiro Construções), Galvão Engenharia and Skanska Brasil with no end date. 3 are barred by one public buyer: Constran by the federal railway company until Aug 2028, Mendes Júnior by the federal roads agency until Sep 2028, Nova Engevix by the same agency until Mar 2027.

Andrade Gutierrez is not barred but carries R$40.7M in fines. Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvão, UTC and Iesa had no listing under the names we searched, including the newer names Novonor and OEC for Odebrecht and Alya for Queiroz Galvão; we checked them by name only.

A name alone misleads: "Mendes Junior" finds 8 listings under 6 names, and only one is the builder.

What you do with it: check every new supplier by company number before you sign, and check long contracts again every few months.

The main listing for each company

From the Oct 13, 2026 check, using the government lists dated Oct 10. Each card shows the company's main listing in the list's own terms, shortened: type of sanction, reach, who imposed it and dates. Open a card for the company on the government transparency site (it may ask you to confirm you are human). How it works

Your AI assistant does these steps for you. Our run was free, and there is nothing to install or configure.

Checks each company number

Both federal lists: companies barred from public contracts, and fines under the Anti-Corruption Law. Listings on other branches of the same company count too.

Searches by name when there is no number

Matches the name on the list and the company's registered name today, so a renamed company still turns up, along with any lookalikes.

Sorts the answer

Your assistant separates bans that apply to every public buyer from bans by one buyer and from fines, with the end dates.

Questions

Which lists does it check?

The two federal lists kept by the comptroller general (CGU): companies and people barred from public contracts (CEIS), and penalties under the Anti-Corruption Law (CNEP). Federal, state and city bodies report their sanctions to them.

Does a ban stop me from hiring them?

A ban limits contracts with the public sector, not private deals. For a private buyer it is a warning sign to weigh; if the work feeds a public contract, check the rules of that contract.

What does "no listing" mean?

Nothing in either list under that name or number on the date of the files. It is not a clean bill of health: a name search can miss a company listed under another name, so check by company number when you have it.

How accurate is it?

Each listing comes from the government's files; the cards shorten the wording, and your assistant only sorts and summarizes. It is a snapshot of the latest files, which were dated Oct 10, 2026 for this page, so check again before you sign.

How often should I run it?

Before every new contract, and every few months for long ones. Bans keep arriving: this check found one that started on Oct 7, 2026, six days before it ran.

Why check by company number?

Names change and repeat. OAS is listed under its old name but registered today as Coesa, and "Mendes Junior" finds 8 listings under 6 different names. The company number (CNPJ) finds the right one, including its other branches.

Will the company know I checked?

No. The lists are public.

What does it cost?

Nothing; it is free. New accounts also get $5 to try the paid use cases.
